Deputy Consul General KiCheon Choi delivered a invited lecture on March 26 at Renison University College, University of Waterloo, to approximately 50 students from the Department of East Asian Studies on the topic, “Key Government Roles & Initiatives in Promoting K-Culture.”
In his lecture, Deputy Consul General Choi introduced the historical foundations of the strength of Korean culture and outlined the government’s role in promoting and supporting its global expansion.
Prior to the lecture, he met with President Marc Jerry of Renison University College, where they agreed to strengthen cooperation between the Consulate General and the college in advancing Korean language education and promoting Korean culture.
This event was particularly meaningful in that it encouraged Canadian students with an interest in Korean culture to move beyond simply enjoying it, and to understand and appreciate it within broader historical, social, economic, and geopolitical contexts.
